pretty in pink

pink coffee cup from vessels and wares

vintage mexican tunic from aida coronado

vintage 80's wayfarers from vintage eyewear west

oh, and then there's this. one of the best movie soundtracks of all time.  but that's just my biased, life as a teenager in the 80's opinion.

napkin holder?

Let me start this off by saying I ADORE this piece by Old New Again.

Even though we don't use paper napkins in our house. Too much waste! They are reserved for children's birthday parties only.

And, even though our salt and pepper only comes to the table maybe twice a year on holidays.  It lives in a dark corner of the kitchen where I secretly use it on my food on occasion.  Mind you, I cook with it, I just don't offer it to my children for fear one of them may become a salt fiend like their mother given the opportunity.

I'm also not entirely sure why it's called a "napkin holder" as it doesn't actually *hold* the napkins, does it now?

Never the less, I ADORE this piece.  Weird, eh?

the sartorialist

Love these NYC intersection looks courtesy of recent posts on the always entertaining Sartorialist.  Simply elegant.  Effortlessly chic.

IF YOU HAVE BEAN POLES FOR LEGS.
Which I don't.  (sighs heavily)

hot for teacher... at anthro

Third year running I've gotten fun, affordable teacher gifts at Anthro (ok, the polka dot pencil set is a little pricey but it's so freakin' cute I splurged and got a set for the house too).
Best part? I'm done! (Pats self on back.)
Well, with the teachers at least.

time management

Call me crazy.... but I think this might have something to do with the extraordinary amount of time it takes me to shoot and upload pictures to the shop. At least she's cute. And undeniably entertaining.

happy sacks

I'm just not sure what's more fabulous.  These dottie angel bags, the fact that she named them "happy sacks" or that she hand wrapped the entire garment rack in coordinating fabric.  Truly.  It's a draw.  Here's a link to her blog. And her shop.  But I must warn you.  They are happy places. And pretty too.

oh christmas tree. again.

Last year we had a blast decorating our new (faux) table top tree. I bought all sorts of beads, bells, paint, glitter, unfinished wooden ornaments, wire ribbon... and more glitter. We had a blast. And made a huge mess.

This year, all I bought were these:

They are mini crochet mirror bead appliques and used glue dots to stick them directly on the branches. I tried gluing them down to ribbon but I really didn't like seeing all the ribbon. It was the dots themselves that were special.  They do look pretty darn cute if I don't say so myself.

We were going to make mini pom poms like these by Lori Marie:

I wanted to turn them into ornaments - in all sorts of bright colors like fuchsia & turquoise (both colors I inevitably spell wrong but love) but we never made it out of the house. All day. Gage is actually going to bed shortly in the same pajamas he woke up in this morning. And never removed.

So, after adhering the dots to the branches, which no one was the least bit interested in helping with, I let the kids rummage through all of last year's hand made garland and ornaments and go nuts. It's a ragamuffin tree but it's ours.  And I love it.

We also hung last year's home made egg carton glitter bells on the windows.  That tutorial is also courtesy of Lori Marie and available here

Oh, and our little helper slept through most of the eventful day. But she did allow us to put a silly elf hat on her and take lots of pictures:

open house

I neglected to blog yesterday as I was throwing a party! A zuzu girl party! (Why do I feel like I'm reading from go, dog, go?)

I'm still recovering from a lovely evening with good friends, wine, chocolate and, of course, jewelry. Thanks to all my friends that came out to celebrate our launch. And hugs to all of you that were here in spirit. You were missed.

Next party, December 16th in South Florida.  Can't wait to do it all again!  (ok, maybe I am looking forward to a short break)

kootut murut

Meet kootut murut.  I found her on flickr because she has lovely little photos that make me smile.  But she also has a lovely little blog.  And a lovely little shop.  Go figure.   And now, apparently, she has a lovely little kitchen. (Well, apparently she's been holding out on us for a year or so with these photos... but it's new to us.  Hmph.)  You can click on over to her blog to see the "before" shots.

I just wanted to share.  Because I think it's lovely.  And I think it would be quite peaceful to sit at this table with a nice hot latte and a fresh scone first thing in the morning.  How can your day possibly go wrong when you start it with a pink cloud?

I can't help but to hum this tune as I upload these pix. (giggle, giggle)
I feel pretty... oh, so pretty... I feel pretty and witty and bright!

diy advent tree

So many people were excited by our thankful tree that I knew I had to post this one as soon as I saw it.  This advent tree is courtesy of Paige Russell and via Poppy Talk Handmade.  I'm still trying to decide whether or not to dress a Christmas tree in our home (I'm leaning towards yes because I really want to make pom-pom garland... don't ask... no clue) so we won't be partaking in this craft but I still think it's pretty darn cool.

There is a full tutorial including a video on Paige's blog so click on over to see what it entails.  And if you make one in your home, please share your photos with us!

paper source

Paper Source is the type of store that you go to only when you have a strict time constraint. Not because you don't want to spend all day there. But precisely the opposite, because you can spend all day there. I go in for an ink pad and place cards and I leave with pom pom dish towels. Or juicy fruit gum. Or recycled flip flop bracelets. I know, random. But completely irresistible. And then tonight I make the mistake of googling them only to find out that a good portion of their assortment is available on line. Which is most definitely a problem as I am not nearly as good with my e-commerce time management than my mall time management.  Not even close.

But, since I spent so much time on their site tonight I figured someone should benefit. Above are some of my favorites.
By gift giving category of course.

FOR HER:
colored pencil frame, little miss sunshine mug & pom pom dishtowels

FOR HIM:
mustache cork screw, beer pong book & whiskey rocks

FOR THEM:
food face plates, animal face temporary tattoos & lucha libre dolls

DIY PAPER CRAFTS:
crowns, masks & poppys

sugar rush. and a happy thanksgiving.

Yesterday we expressed our deep gratitude on a tree. Today, we ate sugar. Lots and lots of sugar. Thanks to the lovely folks we blogged about here that gave us all the creative ideas that we so dramatically botched and blundered.  But we had a ball.  And that's truly what matters.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.  And to all... a good night.

giving thanks

Our thankful tree. Not our idea. But our thanks. From Friends to Family. Books to Video Games. Chocolate to Chicken. We have so much to be thankful for.  So very much that the intended centerpiece is actually too large to fit in the center of the table. But that's a good thing.

We hope you are yours are as thankful as we are tonight.

Our inspiration for our thankful tree came from here...
and was blogged about previously here.

pouf!

When I was little they were bean bags (that doesn't age me too much now does it?).  Then we got a little uptight and they became ottomans.  But they are back.  And they are bad ass.  And they are now called poufs.  You can't blink without seeing one pulled up in a living room, play room or kids room as extra seating or just plain eye candy.
Comfy?  Depends. Way cool? Definitely.

tree trimming at anthro

Since we never actually spend Christmas day here (Santa thinks we live at Grandma's house), I'm not sure if we're going to trim a tree or not.  Last year was our first.  And we did an entirely homemade tree.  Well, except for the lights.  We used jingle bells, paint, egg cartons, wooden shapes, pipe cleaners, ribbon, beads, and lots... and lots of glitter.  But if I were going to "buy" a tree... you can bet I'd go to Anthro.
And it would look something like this.
