cutest. apron. ever.

Cutest. Apron. Ever.

It was given to Zuzu as a Christmas present this year. I meant to blog about it immediately but then it got tucked away and shipped with all the other presents. And I had a few other things going on. But then this morning she carried it out to help me make the chocolate chip pancakes (breakfast of champions).

Needless to say, if I had more time (and a whole lot more talent) I'd be knocking this off in my size to match. It came from a company called Cupcakes and Cartwheels which is owned by another company called Two's Company. Their website has been under construction since I first looked on Christmas day but you can certainly keep checking!

Our pancakes were fantastic.
And the apron is still clean.

napkin holder?

Let me start this off by saying I ADORE this piece by Old New Again.

Even though we don't use paper napkins in our house. Too much waste! They are reserved for children's birthday parties only.

And, even though our salt and pepper only comes to the table maybe twice a year on holidays.  It lives in a dark corner of the kitchen where I secretly use it on my food on occasion.  Mind you, I cook with it, I just don't offer it to my children for fear one of them may become a salt fiend like their mother given the opportunity.

I'm also not entirely sure why it's called a "napkin holder" as it doesn't actually *hold* the napkins, does it now?

Never the less, I ADORE this piece.  Weird, eh?

kootut murut

Meet kootut murut.  I found her on flickr because she has lovely little photos that make me smile.  But she also has a lovely little blog.  And a lovely little shop.  Go figure.   And now, apparently, she has a lovely little kitchen. (Well, apparently she's been holding out on us for a year or so with these photos... but it's new to us.  Hmph.)  You can click on over to her blog to see the "before" shots.

I just wanted to share.  Because I think it's lovely.  And I think it would be quite peaceful to sit at this table with a nice hot latte and a fresh scone first thing in the morning.  How can your day possibly go wrong when you start it with a pink cloud?

spooning

Do you not want to go and make some of these painted spoons for your kitchen RIGHT NOW or what? I just adore the simple whimsy created by Fine Little Day.  Thanks go to say YES! to hoboken for the introduction.  Now I just wish I had few more wooden spoons here. Anyone have some they want to unload?

my new love affair... with melmac

I became interested in vintage Melmac for several reasons.  One, I have two small kids (with lots of friends) and I'm just not ready to serve their food on grown up plates.  However, I was beyond ready to say goodbye to the kid's stuff.  I've also been looking for something to brighten up the dark corner shelves in the kitchen.  They were screaming loudly at me for color.  It doesn't hurt that the price tag is super affordable as well.  And because I'm buying them used I am saving them from landfill and not contributing to further production of icky plastic.  It's a win, win, win, win!

I admittedly haven't done tons of research on the product but I've found that there were enumerable factories producing the fashionable tableware in the 50's and 60's.  When shopping for vintage Melmac, I decided not to concern myself too much with the factory of origin but focused on one cup and bowl style and have limited myself to five colors; pink, aqua, avocado, orange & yellow.  The table looks fabulous when I randomly assort the platters, bowls, plates and cups.

Someday I'll post a picture of that quickly morphing corner in our kitchen but until then I've got my eye out for some more great finds.  Oh, did I mention that I bought this while writing this post.  Yup.  Addict.
